Book a break in January or at the end of summer: To grab a bargain, book in January or the end of summer. By waiting until the New Year, you will save precious post-Christmas pounds as hotels and spas look to fill the empty rooms that arise during the low season. Secret Escapes offers members affordable luxury travel with exclusive deals at up to 70 per cent off four and five-star hotels and holidays.

Be open-minded: Whilst your heart may be set on visiting a particular destination or hotel, don’t allow yourself to get weighed down searching for breaks to a specific location. Not only is this time consuming but you may end up paying a higher price or miss out on a great deal elsewhere. For example, sun seekers might find holidays to Montenegro to be a cheaper alternative than Croatia, while those on jthe hunt for a festive escape might consider Slovenia for a Christmas adventure as opposed to Berlin. In fact nine- out-of-ten Secret Escapes members said they were not planning to book a trip when they first went on the website so being spontaneous can also often save you money

Complimentary perks: Nothing makes a holiday sweeter than a complimentary perk, and they’re not too hard to come by if you know where to look. Many airlines offer extras on long-haul, economy class flights so travellers can take advantage of extras, from Swiss chocolates on Swiss Air to a wedding cake on Singapore Airlines (contact them at least 24 hours in advance). We are always on the look-out for those additional perks that make staying at our hotels extra special from a bottle of bubbly on arrival to spa access and three course dinners.

Consider a Staycation: When it comes to planning your next adventure, don’t disregard a trip closer to home. A recent study of ours found that 52 per cent of Brits consider a staycation to be ‘one of life’s little luxuries’ and a cosy, mid-week treat can often save you some pennies. With so many beautiful locations right on your doorstep, from the rolling hills of the Cotswolds to the buzzing metropolis of Manchester, now is the perfect time to explore the UK.
