With a whole host of fantastic eateries in the UK providing an abundance of delicious cuisines right on our doorstep, is it any wonder that the average Brit now eats out twice a week?
Matt Turner, dounder and CEO of tastecard, the UK’s largest dining club, shares his top tips on the best ways to save money when eating out.
If you’re feeling extra thrifty, do your research and find out about nifty dining discount cards such as a tastecard, which eases the strain on your wallet and makes regular dining out affordable.
A tastecard offers members 50 per cent off or 2 for 1 off the total food bill, meaning it should most definitely take pride of place in your purse or wallet.
Keep an eye out for new restaurant openings, as often they will put on discounts for the first few months to gain momentum, or offer complimentary food or drink on the opening night. Take advantage of this by ensuring you know when opening nights are taking place and make sure you are on the guest list!
Try not to turn up to a restaurant absolutely ravenous. Combat this throughout the day with plenty of filling snacks. That way you won’t be tempted to splurge on lots of extra sides to fill you up!
Sharing a dish with a friend is a great way to cut down on costs, and try a couple of different dishes. Many restaurants incorporate sharing platters or larger portion sizes into their menus, making it easier for diners to share. Split the cost of the bill and have fun tucking in with a friend, or take a date and enjoy the romance of sharing your food.
Notoriously restaurants put their prices up during school or public holidays. Keep an eye out for offers and discounts during these periods, instead of the fixed price menus. If you’re looking to eat out for a special occasion, perhaps consider celebrating the day before or after, to save money on the bill.
Matt adds, 'We’re a nation that loves to eat out and socialise. This doesn’t necessarily have to be for a special occasion, it could be an unplanned treat one lunchtime. Luckily, eating out has never been easier, which is why we have shared these top tips.
'A tastecard membership offers users 50 per cent off or 2 for 1 on food across our partner restaurants, making dining out a fun, affordable and delicious experience each and every time.'
