If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for ways to save money. Whether it be taking advantage of offers at the supermarket or spending 45 minutes on the phone to your satellite provider haggling like your life depends on it to get the movie channels for as little as possible, (I always tell them they can keep the horror channel, there is no way I am watching anything on there!). Luckily enough I have a few tips to help you on your quest to cutting your costs and keeping them down!

Get tough on your TV provider

Let’s start with that pesky satellite provider. The Discovery group recently threatened to not take up their renewal with Sky as they were getting less and less each year but Sky were putting their prices up. Luckily, fans of the channels complained enough that Sky managed to agree a new deal. Why is this relevant? Because it shows the power the consumers have over these types of companies.

You may feel like the little guy when it comes to satellite providers but they know once you leave it’ll be a long time till you go back. The same applies to broadband and telephone costs. And it’s a pretty simple thing you need to do get your costs down. Pick up the phone and tell them you’re leaving. It really is that simple, I do it at least twice a year. Whether you quote a competitor or tell them you like the value of a freeview box they’ll soon start dropping the price.

Take advantage of free trials

Free trials are perfect when you don’t want to spend lots on a night out. Now TV, Amazon Prime and Netflix all over up to a month’s free trial and there are some great films and TV series to binge on. Just remember to cancel before you get charged!

No more last minute holidays

Book your holiday early, last minute deals are dying. Companies are wise to it now. And once a plane has enough passengers booked on it the prices actually go up!

You wanna quit the gym?

Give up that gym membership! £50 a month is a lot of money if you don’t go. And don’t be that person who has a membership and says things like 'oh, I am going to go, I’ve just been busy recently', we all see through it and you’re only fooling yourself. There are so many free resources on the internet too. The Body Coach has uploaded so many free workouts to YouTube; that should be enough to keep you fit for the rest of your life!

Compare prices with apps

Redlaser is an app everyone should have on their phone! It’s a simple concept too. You walk into a shop, find something you want to buy, say trainers, scan the barcode and the app will tell you if there is another shop nearby with them cheaper or give you the option to buy them cheaper online if they’re available. It’s a genius idea and is already being used by over 22 million people already! They can’t all be wrong!
